right who knows what i can swap with gearbox.
as most of you know i have a 1200 which is on its way out
what can i swap in (the engine is over 100bhp ) or
can i get another 1200 box rip it apart and change the ratios ?
what do i need to do to "beef it up " ? beter diff ?
where do i get my ratios from ?

Cheers

hi ya jon you could try a 1500 box outta a 1500 bug you may have 2 swap the axles etc long/short and all that or you could try a GT box outta the gt bug its the best of the 2 but harder 2 find and pricer. Ive got a 1500 box in my 70 bug and it will see the ton with a 1600 and a weber no problems :D

ok mate if you have a higher BHP then you will realy need heavy duty sideplates at the least

1500 and gt boxes are the best for crusing but for sheer strength the 1200s are the strongest standard box

just you lose topend

hope that helps mate

if what your saying is correct - i.e 1200 box is strongest.

i take it its possible to get a 1200 box and take the 4th gear from a 1500 (or buy one not fussed) and slap that in , then maybe beef up the diff and weld up 3rd and 4th

very posable thinking about it but not sure if it would work?

but wil reqire a big power press to press on the gears

1200 are stronger as you have less teeth in the gears to get more torque thus having larger and and bigger teeth

1500 and gts have more teeth to gain top end but are a lot smaller and easyer to brake

hope that makes sense

just got to find another box first .

What i want to do is get another box , rip it apart , have a play with it re-build it then when i'm happy just do a swap - Just means the car stays on the road.

I'm also going to do a narrowed from beam + wide 5 disks - The car is just to nervous when i brake on the motorway
