thinking of changing my very worn out 2ltr engine in my bus anybody no what else would fit in easy as new 2ltr engine is about £1000 plus far to much!

as the hot rod saying goes anything can be made to fit!

common conversions are alfa boxer engines and subaru engines as these are roughly the same shape and size as the vw engine and adaptor plates are readily available. Bear in mind that with all water cooled lumps you'll have to sort out postioning of a rad and associated waterworks.

All engine conversions will require some degree of fabrication for engine mounts / supports etc.

other engines in a van that have been successful include golf / audi, porsche, vw tdi, ford ohc and V6, rover V8 etc etc.

You'll probably find that if cost is the only factor then it'll end up cheaper buying a recon 2lt, unless you can do all the engineering yourself!

the thing is i could pick up a decent water cooled engine easily and cheap to get my 2ltr reconned or buy another is just over £1000

i can do the wiring and plumbing no sweat

anybody know who sells these plates ??
