Hi people,
I have bought the second in a row of wedgie campers with severe mechanical problems. It is currently in the hands of Bears in Sandpits in Brum, and the main dude reckons that the big end bearings are going/gone as there is a knock whilst ticking over, has possible electrical probs, oil contaminated carburetta and the exhaust needs completely replacing. He reckons at least £2500+ of work as the studs on the engines always break off. Is it right in saying that because the bearings are gone in the big end and the studs break(!!!) that it is better to bin the engine and buy a new one? I was well and truly suckered into buying this van for £2200 and dont have the cash to fix it up. it is an A reg watercooled 1950cc. Can anyone offer me some advice or another place I can take it for a second opinion? I am now under the impression that I have 'take what you can from me' engraved on my face somewhere.

£2500

the guys having a laugh. I would say a couple of hundred quid or so for a decent 2nd hand engine and all your problems are solved in one. Have a look in general chat as there's a post with some T25 forums on it

How on earth does he get to that figure? - you could buy a recon engine for a lot less. I'd definitely get a second opinion from somewhere else - sounds like he's trying to pull a fast one on you or doesn't want to do the job & hence is quoting hugely inflated prices to put you off
