okay i've had to put a 009 on the motor just so i can get about + the end result is  The original vac dizzy is shot - loads of play in drive shaft + even moves up + down!!

so the question is; where can i get a replacement from??? had a look for a refurb kit but had no luck. Any idea of prices??

can anyone help us out, as dread trying to drive the bus to bug jam with the 009 fitted!

cheers folks!

Is the 009 working okay? I was gonna buy one but didn't have the cash Saturday. I got a vac dizzy on spare 1300 T/P I got lying about so if you wanna try that we could work something out. :)

Steve, the 009 is working fine (no play, new points, condensor etc) just doesn't work too well with the type of carb i'm running. The motor originally was supplied with the 009, but fitted an old vac dizzy to see if it pulled away better! it's just that the vac dizzy has given up!

009's are weird - my mate has run them on all his engines with no flat spots or anything. Runnin the same carb as my motor aswell!

Will have to check if your dizzy will work okay on a 1641cc as advance curve might be different.

Don't suppose you could get me the part no. off side of dizzy could you?

cheers mate!

set up right, the 009 is better
block off air pipe to carb, which came off old dizzy
look on body of 009 there is a line cut were cap fits
set timing mark on pully, then twist dissy round to the rotar arm meets cut line. timing will not be far away

Dave, i'm running a solex 34 carb with the vac port blocked off but still has a really crap pull away. I've set max advance to 30 degrees at 3000rpm + re-set carb but the bugga don't wanna run nicely :(

Just seemed like the van ran with no flat spots with the vac dizzy.

Anything else i've missed?

Cheers mate

if you dont get it sorted, i got a combined centrifugal and vacuum advance dizzy from heritage, not cheap at £100(!) but really does do the trick, evens works a treat with my shitty bocar 34-3! (ne1 got a weber 32/26 f/s??)

righty, i've tried the points gap set to give 45 degree and 50 degree of dwell but still playin up.

Am i right to asume that after 3000 rpm the 009 shouldn't be advancing any further?

I'll try it once more to see if i can sort it as don't wanna be paying the 100 quid just yet!!!

Seems that it's runnin a bit rich at idle as had to crank up the idle mixture to give a more smooth pull away........never plain sailin is it!

wikid dave, i'll try + get over to vmagic tomorrow + see if they're chargin the right price  for one. Just seems like the 009 don't wanna play fair. Wasn't theyre some dodgy one around for a while that didn't have smooth advance curves? Technically they should be smoother than a vac advance - but dont give enough advance in low revs....... or am i talkin shite?? hahaaa

with all this talk of advance and dwell it kinda relates to my question over here~: https://volkstorque.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=61904#61904

If anyone can advise it would be great

Hope this doesn't class as hijacking :?

From what i've read, 009's with a 34 pict carb don't do too well and you get a flat spot. articles on it on aircooled.net i think

yeah, there is huge flat spot below 2000rpm which is a real pain when driving around town - not too noticeable on motorways as motor is spinning at 4000rpm's. :)

Have done a load of research today to find out which type of standard vac dizzy should be fitted to the AB engine. However the AB case was a 1300cc but has been built up as a 1641cc!!!! Surely this is gonna make a difference to which dizzy to fit?

It recomends a bosch/vw 113 905 205 series in the manual. The one i took off was a 043 905 205 B

I'm starting to get mega cheesed of as all i wann do is fit a dizzy that works with the motor + carb!!!

Contacted VWheritage + they stock a bosch (£100) + pattern (£50) dizzy which universal (aledgedly!)

Any one tried one of these cheaper distributors???

any advice???

The distributor you took off (VAG No 025 905 205 B) is also used on 1.9DF T25 watercooled...So you could ask on the 80-90 forum...
So with the 025 905 205 B it is a Hall ignition and it ran well as you have said.
So if you have put a 009 on...have u also changed to a blue coil? As this is needed for points ignition system..
Good luck

cheers guys. The dizzy i removed started with 043 905 205 B which indicates to me that it originally came from a beetle (info might be wrong though as it came from an american site). I'm runnin a bosch blue coil with the 009 fitted at the mo and seems fine above 2000 rpm.

Whats this Hall ignition about?
