Got up today to find my '84 mk2 gti wouldn't start!
Had a look and saw that, on the coil, the ht lead connection had snapped off, so the only answer was to buy a new one from GSF.
With this fitted, it gets a good spark, stinks of petrol when I try to fire it up, so its getting fuel, but still doesn't start.
Engine is properly earthed, leads are in the right place (firing order ok), so what else could be the problem?

If it stinks of petrol check the plugs haven't been soaked and aren't firing well. If they are try a set of new ones

Got it sorted, cheers!
Took the fuel pump relay off, and it fired up straight away, then died.
Put it back on, its run ok ever since, except for being really lumpy at idle, so I reckon I'e damaged the seal on one of the injectors trying to pull them off.

Oh well, just that,
the blowing exhaust,
the oil leak,
the reverse light switch,
the horn,
broken tailgate struts,
wheelarch trims,
bald tyres,
tracking,
cv joint
and broken drivers seat to do now!
