do you push em all the way in till they won't go no further, or just and inch or so in?

when i changed mine, i just pushed them in as far as they would go then, i pulled them out just a bit, not sure if theres a right or wrong way for this

you can always use your bumper as well as a kind of line up tool,

when i had a stock zorst and pipes I just pushed them all the way in which was still only about 30-35MM

mine stick out about 5 cms from the valance, remember hearing somewhere that if you push em in too far it can restirct the flow...
