Simple query really:

Due to the disappearance of leaded fuel from many petrol station forecourts is it recommended to run the VW Beetle 1300 1286cc engine on unleaded fuel!?

Please provide technical support with any provided advice.

the general opinion is that any engine built from about 1969
will run on unleaded due to the hardened valve seats
i've always run vehicles from that age on unleaded and never
had a problem

the absolute worst thing that could happen by running unleaded when you shouldn't is that you have to replace the parts that you would have to replace to make it run on unleaded in the first place.

just pour the green stuff in it will be fine...

I've run Unleaded in all of my VW's for the past 10 years!
The money I've saved has probably helped pay for the 6 engines I've needed!!!

Seriously tho, I've never had a single problem, and yes, (apart from I thought it was all post 1970 engines) running unleaded has been the way to go since it was introduced!!!

So it it worth using a "lead" additive ? if you have a pre 1970 engine ? and if so any brands recommended ?

Sorry lots of questions there.

I use Redex Lead Replacement. One bottle lasts quite a while since you don't need that much at a time.

Unfortunately the manufacturers are in the deep sh*t with trading standards for false advertising - research has proven they don't work. There was something about in in practical classics/ car mechanics last year

Samage - you shouldn't need to use anything on yours - it was built to run unleaded - save your £

They work in mine, or my car runs on unleaded without modification :?

It would probably of been fine without them tho! No way of telling either way i suppose!

worst comes to the worst, you'll have to swap your heads for some secondhand ones 25000 odd miles down the road, not really an issue.
