Won't Start After Winter Storage

Anyone got tips on how to start my engine after the car's been stood there for 2 months over the Winter?
It's a Ghia. I've kept it in a bubble in a barn over the Winter, so it shouldn't be damp. I've charged the battery up and it slowly turns over for 10 seconds or so before stopping for a breather. All of the electrics are working fine, so plenty of power. I've also tried the same whilst jump-starting it, but the same happens.
I've heard something about putting petrol down the carbs in these situations but I haven't got a clue how to do it. I'm also wondering if WD40 on the leads might work, but it sounds a bit mucky.
Any ideas gratefully appreciated.

Cheers now,

Jez

You could try taking off the the connections on your starter & giving them a good clean.
Also do the same on your battery & the earth strap off your engine/gearbox.

Oh & the fuel down the carb thing is about an oilcan cap full of fuel down the intake but you do it at your own risk cos if your timings out it can get quite hairy to say the least

If it's only turning over lethargically, it could be that the battery is kaput and not holding charge.
Try jumping it off a booster pack or another vehicle, at least that will elliminate that problem if it isn't.

even a jump start wont always help if the battery is completely duff . The old battery on the moggy died whilst in storage and even the booster pack / a jump from the tdi wouldn't do the job. If i took the battery out of the TDI and onto the moggy it fired straight away! I've since shoved another battery on it and even if its flat a booster park will work fine.
