Can I have some "expert" opinions...

I know you can't really tell from pictures but how does this bus look?

doesn't look too bad (from the pics)

Its had a bit of tidying up - you can see the overspray.

Its got belly pans - which can be a bad thing

the engine has been rebuilt at some time - has an alternator fitted - but doesn't run at the moment.

a few signs of rust here and there.

looking at the overspray - I would want to poke it (ooh err !)

then again - it depends on the price !

btw - I am not an 'expert'

Looks a solid bus from the pictures. Someone will no doubt correct me, but it has the low front indicators and rear lights with the crescent shaped air vent which would make it an early bay (pre 72), but it looks to have the later flared rear arches. Not a big issue and easily put right.
Like Tricky I would be concerned whats under, or rather above, those belly pans.
Are you looking to buy it? You have to balance 'how good' against 'how much'

It's a 1971 and yes a US import.

Asking price is £5995.

Looks like a good solid early bay.
For £6k, I'd wanna decentpaint job and know what's lurking underneath the belly pans. It shouldn't hide too many troubles being US spec but even in the US, they do get rain! (Just not as much salt on the roads!).
Having said that, it has a Westfalia pop top and if it does have a full Westfali interior, then £6k ain't too far off the mark for an early bay.

you can hope that this pic just shows some accident damage, but more likely its indicative of the general chassis condition under the belly pans. the rest of the van looks ok tho but its too much £££

some of the best prices on import vans are found on keift and klok (someone with a mag to hand will give you the correct details!)

actually this one is on KieftenKlok!

1971 VW Westfalia. The best year of the baywindow they say. Old style body with newer technique like servo and disc brakes in front. California cool surfcamper with no rust, no welds, clean paint and excellent interior. Headliner is excellent, fermica cabinetry is like new, and canvas tent is great condition. US bumpers with overriders. Bus has no major accidents. this camper has been painted less than 4 years ago and looks great, with new white wall tires. Front seats are nice with nice upholstry. Rear seat may need upholstry but is still nice. Original color is red and white. Today this bus arived.
