I have a 1973 1303s. Its date of reg is 7/11/1973.
Is there any way that it may be tax exempt.
A long shot i think but thought i would ask.

Unlikely, to be tax exempt it must have been manufactured before 01/01/73. I stand to be corrected, but I don't imagine there are many registered after about March 73 that would have been built that early. Come on folks, what's the latest date of registration we have on here thats ended up tax exempt?

Probably about as much chance as Coxy waking up and finding a pair of 40DD breasts under his vest
It depends on the date the car was manufactured, rather than the date it was registered and is always worth checking if the reg date is pretty close to january '73 ...... so yours might be a bit of a long shot (but stranger things have happened)

my old bay was registered in july but ended up being tax exempt, was actually made on 31/12/72, hows that for jammy!!!
That wasnt uncommon i don't think with vans tho, as they often sat around waiting to have the camper conversions done for ages before being registered.

You have to write to VW with the chassis number and for a few quid they will give you a 'birth certificate' to show DVLA

pm me the chassis number and I'll tell ya. Doubt it very much though to be honest. Vans are common like ol bluey said as it could take a few months from leaving the factory until they got kitted out and sold as a camper. 1303's were new in 1972 and were quite an advancement in motoring terms (well, compared to the old beetle) and thus, they didn't sit around in dealerships long. It would have probably been manufactured October 73 at a guesstimate.

as you've found out, close but no cigar.
you could always put a '1300' engine in for the cheaper tax
