Need help with bearings please

hey guys and girls... jacked the bus up earlier to find out what's up with that rear wobbley wheel. seems to be slightly buckled when you spin it and can hear a slight clunking when you wobble it on the axel.

so we figure the bearings are loose but dont know what to do about it... Dads flicking through the Haynes manual as i type but do you lot have any tips/advice? anyone had similar problems?

Ta

Jenna

hi it might be a loose hub nut, if you can wobble the wheel. remove the hub cap and you will see one large nut with a split pin which passes through it, to keep it locked, remove the split pin and tighten the nut until the wobble has gone and the wheel will still turn freely,do not over tighten. worst case would be a new bearing. If you have any trouble I know a man who could do this for you in Jodrell street Nuneaton he's good and reasonable, I take my van there in a emergencies his name is Louis 07812756780 he may get it done before you go to cornwall, if you not already sorted.

I'd go with what rob said as first thing to try.
The castle nut has to be done up to a lot of torque (hang off a 6ft scaffolding bar type thing) so it might not have been done up fully by a previous owner. split pin should be in place too. Rear bearings are usually pretty hard wearing.

ta guys. just had a chat with my dad about it, he's got a torque wrench so can make sure we don't over tighten but as the first decent trip after repairs will be all the way down to Cornwall (with an overnight stop) we're a bit nervous about why/how it's got loose with the split pin still there. we're gonna try to have a better look tomorrow, if all looks ok then we'll tighten the hub/castle nut and be done but i can see us giving a garage a call... protective dad and all that

Thanks for the numbers and advise

If you can't fix it with a hammer, then it must be an electrical problem.
