1303s 1973 beetle - advise please

i have just brought a 1973 1303s which is 75% restored and don't really know where to go from here as I am new to the vw scene.

car is in pretty good condition although it has some minor bubbles in the paint and needs time and money spent on the interior.

also, its going for mot tomorrow, so fingers crossed for that.

car runs like a dream but i think its running a bit rich.

i have also got some parts that were supplied with the car, stuff like quick shift conversion and new eyelids, etc, etc.

any advise from people who know what their doing would be much appreciated.

i really want to get the best out of this car, as its a project for my wife to enjoy once its finished, when i intend to buy another for me to use.

i have some pics but don't know how to post them

also, would like to lower the car - what do i need to do this and how much does it cost, roughly

Welcome to the scene!

Best to address specific questions on problems in the mech tech section and we'll try and help you out!

You'll know more when you get the car back from the mot, but most things are pretty easy to fix.

Best buywould be the relevant haynes manual, i'm sure someone here will have a spare for sale and then join one of the local clubs, Fun lovin flat fours are only a short trek away in telford!

As for lowering, it's real easy on a 1303, set of lowering springs for the front, a pair of spring compressors to swap em over and then it's a fairly simple process for the rear (no specific tools or parts needed). all going well you'll have it slammed in a day.

Enjoy!
