what is the best......

vw aircooled type 1/2 engine re-build book to buy??

anyone give some recommendations??

or what do you guys think about the dvds that you can get? especially the ones on e ebay

don't know about the dvds.
read lots on the internet (proper tech articles not forum opinions) - aircooled.net and cal-look.com have some good stuff
old book - how to hotrod your vw engine is somewhat outdated but the basics are sound. loads of info.
John Maher's dvd is very good.
Keith Seume did a couple of good books not specifically for engines but some good useful info.

I would say that if you simply want to rebuild your stock Type 1 Beetle/bus engine, get yourself a copy of Tom Wilsons "How to rebuild your volkswagen Air Cooled Engine" together with a copy of the Bentley and/or the haynes manuals.

If you want to get into tuning, then as Rich say's there are some good books available by Mr Seume and Bob Fisher (Although some of this is a bit dated now). And some of the stuff on the net is good too, but be selective.

But above and beyond all that, you can't beat talking to people face to face who have done the job themselves.

cheers guys. i'm just building up a stock but with 1641. so that don't really make any difference....
