Harnesses in a road car? Good or Bad?

Harnesses in a fasty, good idea or a way off the mark big pair of yellowing pants kinda idea?

Got to replace the knackered statics and i can either go for some harnesses on both sides (rendering the back seat useless), just one for the drivers side or inertia real on both sides.

What do people think of harnesses in general look crap pain in the arse to use or really good bit of kit?

I'll be running a 2lt turbo type 4 engine btw

not had harnesses since i had a mini but that was full race spec, i like the way they hold you into a seat but wasn't sure whether they look right.

depends where your stereo and switches are.

it's a pain on the buggy as the indicators etc are out of reach if I have the harnesses properly tightened.

short journeys are a pain too..

if you install correctly you need to have the over shoulder loops 'fixed' about 3-4cm above shoulder height or risk compression injuries if you crash, it's not an MOT failure if not, just not so good in a bump.

If you build a frame behind the rear seat to loop the belts over that would cover that side of things and you'd still have use of rear seats...

Or get the harnesses with the 4 seperate pieces that clip into the buckle independently - Duncan has them in his car and he uses them as lap straps some of the time and full harnesses when he needs to.

I've been having a similar conversation on www.cal-look.com/forum with Tom Kettle (Germanlkmanx) about belts for his '62
