Hello,
I'm considering changing my Beetle and was wondering about how you expert guys assess the current one for sale on volkszone.com in Norwich by big_blue_bug posted 28.01.05. 1979 Beetle 1600cc (base model 1200) - does this indicate it was rebuilt at some stage and reregistered.
It sure looks good from a single photo but what do you really think - is the asking price reasonable etc! Cheers.
How you do dat with the photo!!? Yes that's the one so what do you think. Any knowledge out there for this Beetle!? Someone must know it.
Let me have your comments good, bad or indifferent. Ta!

Yes marmite we can see that but what was the original colour - do you know!? And Guz I think you also know more about this Beetle - are you telling more or not!? Hey it's a serious question guys.
Should I post on Tech instead!
Looks like a decent Beetle for the money. It does say the car is in Bedford, NOT Norwich so someone may know of it.
The paint on the rear wings looks somewhat faded, but I wouldn't let that put you off. It has a full MOT so unless he's taken in to Telfords favorite garage, then it's going to be structurally sound. If he needs to sell, then I'm sure he'd shift on the price. Start at £1300 and meet him half way and you've got your self a decent motor. I do like the way he states conversion from 1200 to 1600 professionally done! Taking out a 1200 engine and replacing it with a 1600 motor is something that most people on here may have done in an hour on a weekend!
It does have some mild custom touches which won't be to some people tastes such as the teardrop rear lights, and the lucas style indicators, also Scirocco interior and fibreglass running boards, plus some other touches. So it is far from stock, but having said that, it's not wild and OTT.

harry or john, calm down dear, i'm sure if guz knew more he would tell you (or send you a pm, as he would not want to offend, either way!)

it's hard to tell from a photo.where they say that the paint is "old"
i would guess that it hasn't been laquered properly,or reacted.
model 't' rear lights...bo@ll**ks...they're tear drops
unfortunatly without seeing it close up,it's anybodys guess
for what it's worth,it wouldn't be my'cup of tea'.a couple of things suggest they don't know what they're talking about
THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION
Thanks guys but I am really undecided at the moment whether to go for an original, 1300, totally 'unspoilt', 2 owner from new etc etc or something slightly customised say wheels, 1600cc, lowered, interior etc. Not a good situation to be in. Expect to be doin a reasonable annual mileage. Cheers anyway kev, marmite on toast, coxy and guz for your thoughts and comments. Anything further let me know. Cheers....totally undecided.
Stock unmolested bugs are always a winner with me. If you want to lower it and put alloys on then that's your choice at the end of the day, but there are fewer and fewer stock bugs on the road. If you have the chance to get a 2 owners from new one, then get it!
