ZIG UNIT ??????

Evening peeps.
I'm fitting out a bay and are fitting 12v spotlights. Would it be better to wire via a fuse straight to the trickle charge battery or through a zig unit? Also, what does a zig unit actually do, and if one is needed whats the best type to use? Thanks again for all your help.

i think a zig is to do with charging up the leisure battery as you drive, more like a control panel for the electriccery

i think you may as well just wire the lights up to a small fusebox and then straight to the leisure battery

I have a ZIG unit in my Split. I use it for running three sets of lights, a tap, fridge and a 12volt port for anything else (TV/phone charger). I went for the ZIG unit as i wanted my new wiring install protected, and to charge my leisure battery while on the move. When im on site i can simply throw a switch and hook up to the site electrics and charge my leisure battery.
If i were to have installed the one set of lights i would have simply run them from the leisure battery via a fuse.

For me my ZIG unit allows me to expand when i want to without fear of over doing things.

ziggy zig ah - Spice girls

I have a zig in my van which acts as a transformer / charger for either battery (there is a flip switch) and switch panel for turning on the mains, charging, and 12v leisure system. All very confusing but seems to work. Will flat your main battery if you leave the switches in the wrong positions (stupid me) Mains comes in via a blue euro plug on the side of the van into a small mcb trip board and then to the zig unit & ordinary mains plugs. Your welcome to come & look if it helps
