Question Golf mk3 gti shock question

Right ive got some jamex adjustable shocks on the front of the goof which ive decided to change for standard shocks and a set of 35mm lowered springs ! basically because the one jamex shock has seen better days and the adjusters have siezed to the body of them both and at the moment it has zero suspension travel which makes it hard work on a bumpy rd !
Anyway got some new standard gas shocks and fitted the springs useing standard tops off and old set of standard shocks that i had !
1. the new lowered springs werent exaxtly the tightest of fits from the base to the top mountings but i thought once in place and pushed up they will be ok ?

2. after fighting with the spring compressors and trying to bolt everything back together and lineing up the previous marks i had made eventually all was in and well, checked the bottom of the spring was seated where it should be against the stop plate and everything looks good

3. once back on the ground i took it for a drive and thats when it went wrong everytime you turn the steering wheel you can hear the springs makeing a loud " boinging" sound and as for the ride it was shocking it felt like you was driving on ice and as if the car was slipping all over the place

So anyone got any sugestions to what ive done wrong or missed

Many thanks

did you fit new top hats as the bearings in them will make noises as you turn if they are rusty or collapsed as all the turning load is applied to them..
also did you reset the camber angle correctly as after fitting struts your tracking will be out and make for interesting driving best get both checked at a garage.
