Anyone replaced them ?
Do you need a spring compressor ?
Any advice ?

you need spring compressors, you can get the nut off by making a tool out of a piece of tube and cutting it so it has 2 castellations on it to fit into the nut slots from memory or did the golf have 19mm nuts the centre is an allen key.

Had a look at mine earlier and there is the nut with the hex recess in the top of the shaft
