hope you don't mind

I haVe myself a 1994 1.9d [non turbo] T4, I have had it a month or so and not really used it as I've still got the Golf mk2
My problem .........

I drove it for about 10 miles last week, when I stopped the coolant was forced out of the expansion bottle cap with some force, I let it stand for a bit then drove it home and all was fine, no coolant loss at home or high temp,I changed the expansion cap and tried it again in the week, drove about 20mile all fine then when stopped coolant force out of the cap again
left it foir about 40mins as I was buying trimmed panels in Lutterworth then drove home, again no overheating or loss when I got home.
I have been told it may be the waterpump as it may have lost the impeller blades so I have bought new pump & thermosat and started stripping tonight,
when I took the expansion cap of I had a fair bit of pressure still, van last drove Tuesday when it gushed in Lutterworth, so the pressure still there suprised me
I have took the thermostat cap of and the impeller blades still turn with the pulley moving.
I'm going to change the pump & thermo still, but is there more problems

again,I know its tech but my mrs is getting really cheesed of the van is constantly fubar'd since buying it and I really need to fix once and for all

had to do it this way due to the tags thing when posting

head gasket? can you do the hydrocarbon test on the coolant in the same way as petrol engines? not really that up on oil burners.
