1972 Beetle Clutch kit / flywheel

Ello,

Looks like my Beetle needs the clutch changing. Only problem is the engine is a 1300 that has been modified to make it 1600 and i'm not sure if it has a 180mm or 200mm flywheel + clutch on.
Is there no way to tell without taking the engine out?

I will need either a 180mm or 200mm clutch kit and possibly flywheel, does anyone have a real good one?

Also if the clutch / flywheel turns out to be 180mm is it essential to change the flywheel + clutch to 200mm?

Cheers

Thanks tinman,

Yeh I heard you are a good one to ask for beetle bits
I believe Ian Klek got his engine from you.

Do u know if you NEED to put a 200mm clutch + flywheel on a 1600, or can it be 180mm?
I would rather not have to change the flywheel, don't have all the right tools to do it!

Cheers,

Chris

I changed from a 1300 to 1600 and put my 180mm flywheel and clutch on it no probs. Also I'd need to modify my gearbox to take a 200mm flywheel as it's a pre 67 box. I think later cars take 200mm fine tho'..

also the flywheel and clutch is bolted to the engine not gearbox so you'd have to take the 180mm flywheel off your old engine anyhow
