1972 Westfalia - tax exempt - magazine + book featured
We donât really want to do this butâ¦â¦.
RHD 1972 Tax Exempt Westfalia Continental Bay window with 71,000 miles from new.
We have owned this van for four years, we are the third owners from new and have every receipt for this van including the original bill of sale! It was featured in Camper and Commercial a couple of years ago and is on the front cover and featured in a new book out next month. (see this link)

The interior is perfect, everything works and it is not damaged or marked. We covered the seats and replaced the curtains but underneath the original westfalia âmustardâ coloured fabric is all perfect â no rips or tares. (also we still have the original curtains)
We also have all the extras that the Westfalias came with including
Westy Stool
Westy Hammock
Westy Awning
Once again these are all in great condition and alone are worth £££
Last year the engine was replaced with a recon 1700cc type 4, with brand new twin 40 webbers (once again receipts for approx £1600) the engine has since done 2,000 trouble free miles (1,000 of which were RTTS this year)
The van was resprayed by the last owner in 1995, the paint is reasonable but rust is coming through. I must stress that it is an extremely solid van, in the four years we have owned this van it has passed its MOT first time! The rust is cosmetic along the sills and wheel arches but is not structural. I had one side welded up last year front arch, âbâ post, sill, rear arch and corner and then primed, the aim was to get the other side done this year and then resprayed back to its forma glory but lack of time and a wedding looming I afraid the van is last on the agenda!
I have all panels required to finish (all Alan Schofield), also new window rubbers to fit once it had been sprayed, all of these will be included in the sale!
It has been lowered by Deluxe Motorwerks and I have also fitted some 17â Mercedes alloy wheels.
After looking at what was available at Vanfest I feel that my van is worth big money but realistically I have priced it at £5250
Ring me 07740305351 or email david (dot) simpkin (at) mjengineering (dot) net
Do the sums, that price includes a solid tax exempt westfalia van, all the original westy parts, the panels and rubbers to finish it, a new engine type 4 engine with twin 40âs, lowered with alloy wheelsâ¦â¦..????????
