You know when you don't intend to buy anything, but something comes along and it's too good to turn down? This is one of those cars!
Last Sunday this car was going to be sold to the scrapman, but we got there first! We just had to rescue it...
It's a Mk1 Jetta LX, four-door, 1.3 engine, in white. It was covered in mud and grass, having been laid up under a tree three years ago, but we've spent this week going through it and we can't believe how good it is! It's never been painted (except for the front valance), the only bit of welding it's ever had is a piece about the size of a playing card under the back, the interior is all original and mint, the steel sliding sunroof works and doesn't leak(!), basically it's just ace! The wheeltrims are original and cool, the motor is sweet, the exhaust is new (and sounds great!), it's only got 99,000 miles on it and it drives really well.
It passed the MOT and I taxed it yesterday, and it'll be in the show n' shine on Sunday at Dubfreeze!
There are two bad bits on it (both rather minor!) - the doors have got a few small parking dents and scratches on them, as you'd expect for a 23-year old car! Also the trims for down the side - I've got three, but there are five missing. I've put a trim tape on for now, bu the new owner can have the three and try to buy the rest as and when they turn up - ebay Germany might be the best bet.
If I was keeping it (which I can't!) I'd slam it on some wide 13" wheels and that'd be it!
