This our 1979 vw camper that unfortunately we now have for sale.
The reason being we have a new addition to the family and we can't see ourselves using it as much as we use to for a while so it would just be sitting on the drive.
We bought it in August of 2006 and have enjoyed many adventures.
It's one of the later bay window type two's and is fitted with a very healthy 2.0 engine that has buckets of torque and pulls the van along very well.
While we have owned it, it has the following parts repaired or replaced.
New Bosch battery.
New clutch,
Two new brake calipers, discs and wheel cylinders.
All the bushes in the gear linkage have been replaced with new and finding a gear now is a doddle, not like a lot of other type two's where finding a gear is like stirring porridge.
The gear linkage has also had a short shift kit fitted so you don't bang your hand on the dash board when selecting first and third.
A new clutch was fitted when we first bought it, along with clutch cable.
All the air and fuel pipes on the engine have been replaced.
New starter motor fitted last week.
Regular oil and plug changes done by myself and the carbs were balanced at the end of last year. The engine has never run better.
At some point tha van has had some body work done by previous owners, including a full re-spray. There are however small bubbles appearing on the wheel arches and around the windscreen that may need some attention soon.
The worst part of the body is the drivers door that has rusted through from underneath. It could be repaired but a good second hand door would be the easier option. We have used the van in this condition since we 've had it with no problems but it's always been on our list of "things to do"
The chassis is in excellent condition, and has sailed through the mots with no problems at all. Not sure if there has been work done by previous owners but you are welcome to come and have a look for yourself. The only thing we were going to do to the chassis was to give it a good covering in waxoil to protect it.
The interior is how we bought it and probably the worst part of the van. From day one we always said we would change it but we were having to much fun using it and never got round to it. There is a fridge, but it has never worked. There is a sink, but no pump for the water. There is a two ring hob and grill and they work fine, but we also use a small two ring camping stove to speed things along a little.
The rear bench seat doubles as a rock and roll bed and we have added a small hammock that fits across the drivers and passengers seats for our four year old daughter. As you can see the roof pops up and the space up there is massive, it will quite happily accomodate two adults.
So there you go. A nice honest van that you can use straight away as it is and add your own personal touches along the way.

The van is in Shrewsbury and you are welcome to come and view it with a cup of tea and a bicky anytime you like or if you have any questions or would like more pictures please get in touch.
