Hi guys
The Beetle needs an engine rebuild, due to it being quite fubarred. It was with M Restorations for a few weeks (who were very helpful) and they recommended Elite VW, based in Essex, for the re-build. I am going to call them this week to organise it all. Has anyone ever had any dealings with them?
Thank you

Apparently they collect, so as long as they don't charge too much for that, I don't really give a rats arse where it goes, as long as a good job is done

I think a few folk on vzi have had dealings with them so might be worth a post on there.
Try clewleyzvdubs aka Lee on here - builds very good engines for very good prices

Can't reccommend Lee enough in my book, loads of Cov/Nuneaton folk have had him build engines (including me) and rate him as a top bloke.
Go on, support your local VW community, not some bloody Essex boys who'd rather be working on white xr3i cabriolets!

For a starters, if they are going to collect it and deliver it back, ultimately that price will end up back with you.
I'd use a local person to build it up for you, as a couple of the Cov boys have already said, ClewleyVDubz has built a lot of engines and has a good reputation and is not far from you!
Also makes it easier if there is a problem afterwards.

Lee's after-sales care is top notch too, the only problems I've had with his engines was when I couldn't get the dizzy to line up, and when I couldn't get it to mate to the gearbox.
The first problem was due to a misaligned dizzy drive, and he came round straight away, dropped everything to sort it out. The second was due to me fitting polyurethane box mounts with the bolts that were too long. Nothing at all to do with Lee's engine (totally my fault!), but he still came straight round to see what the problem was.
Personally, I think the reputation of a trader depends not only on how often things go wrong, but how they deal with things when they do. And in neither case can I fault Lee. Top bloke!

and more to the point, a lot of stuff goes on reputation.
I don't know Lee personally but have only ever read/heard good reports on his engine rebuilds. That counts for a lot.
Similar to how JH engines were before he sold the company name and tooling to someone else, which shows it's very easy to lose a good reputation overnight.
