Crankshaft pulley question.
I have the fan belt on my newly built 1500 slipping like fuck, it overheated the engine on the way back from MACH6.
Now, it's a brand new belt, with a brand new fan pulley, and will only tighten up properly if I take
all the shims out.
I was told recently that I might have a crank pulley designed for an alternator rather than a dynamo, as the belts are thicker and shorter. And if you run a dynamo belt on one, you effectively reduce the working diameter, therefore slowing the fan!
Is this true? And if so, where can I get a dynamo crankshaft pulley?
GSF only list one! :?

Volkstorque schlllaaag!!!
don't sound true to me, I swapped my dynamo for an alternator and have never had any belt problems like that?
The belt is the correct one isn't it? (kind of dumb question i know!)

No, its steel and looks original. I'll just go to GSF and buy the shorter of the two belts - no matter what the label says. :?

(*tut*) You have to go and complicate things don't you?
Ok, I'm well confused now, so what pulleys are there (is it gen and alt?)
And why 3 belt sizes?

All the belts listed for beetle and camper (not type 4 engine) for dynamo and alternator are all the same part number, the belt length is 900mm, 63 year onwards anyway,As long as your using standard pulleys, i normally get away with 4 or 5 shims, hope this helps
