won't idle

Just need to pick your brains. Other half discorvered on his way to work that the pertol gauage had stopped working when he ran out of juice. Brought petrol and refueled engine starts no problems but will not idle on low revs.

Does this mean i just need to adjust the tickover?

Or has a load of shit been sucked in and stuffed up my carb?

If it is the carb would i be able to clean it or are we talking£'s and to a garage. if it is something i can do does anyone have an idiots guide for me to follow.

sounds like crap in the carb.

the haynes manual / john muirs idiots guide should show you how to strip and rebuilt your carb (assuming its the stock solex) its not difficult but you will need a carb rebuild kit (essentially a bunch of gaskets).

clean the carb lots first then start stripping, take pics as you go along if your not sure that you'l remember how its meant to fit together!

best done on a large sheet of white paper with a good light.

Sounds like cr@p has been sucked in.
Depending on how dirty it is, you may not have to do a full rebuild - might be able to get away with blowing out the jets and cleaning the float chamber.
fit a fuel filter too (one of those couple of quid ones is fine) but put it in between the tank and pump not between pump & carb.
