Clutch Adjustments

What would cause a clutch to keep going out of adjustment on a Bug?

We took the car in to DC a couple of weeks ago for a bit of bodywork and a new Gearbox mount as it had broken completely.

When my gf was driving it back she couldn't engage gears properly, so I put it on ramps and adjusted the Clutch Cable with the big wing nut by the gearbox. This worked fine for 2 days then went out again (biting point had dropped again). Adjusted it again, assuming the cable was just settling or something.

It was been fine for about 2 weeks (being used daily) untill last night went to take it out, got round the corner and as I was pressing the clutch the biting point dropped to about an inch away from the floor. Got it back home having to double de-clutch and had to switch the engine off when ever I had to stop because the clutch is not disengaging enough to even let the car idle now.

Any ideas I can check because it is practically at the end of adjustment so I'm assuming something has come out of place, but Haynes doesn't show if there are any clips that should be holding the cable under the car.

There is not a great deal to go wrong with the cable itself. There is no adjustment at the pedal end, just make sure the cable conduit behind the rear wheel has the correct 'sag'. and that both ends of the conduit are solid in their mounts. If the cable is all good then it looks like the engine will have to come out to see whats going on inside the bell housing.
The cable might need a little nipping up after a new one is fitted, but not to the extent you describe.
