Wheels spinning

Sounds normal but.....

Currently got my beetle up on axle stands (with all wheels off the ground) and thought today that I would give the engine a run whilst there. So checked it wasn't in gear and started her engine up, strange thing is, the back wheels start spinning?? and stop when I press the clutch down!! I swear its not in gear so whats the problem hear, is this normal??

Cheers

Yes its normal. Oil turbulence from the spinning gears puts a weak rotational force on the output from the box which stops when you engage the clutch.
