Acid dipping fuel tank - Good idea?
I'm having some of my parts dipped for free through a fella who knows my parents. I'm thinking of having my fuel tank done, is this a good idea? I realise I'm going to have to reseal it and paint it etc but Frost do a kit for that. If it is good idea, do I need to remove the bit underneath which connects to the fuel line or can I leave that on? How do I remove it if it needs to be removed? When I seal the tank, will the sealant actually seal the fuel line thing shut?
While I'm on the subject, the fella said he'd put a phosphate coating on all me bits so it's ready for paint. I still need to repair some of the parts (doors mainly unless other damage is revealed through the process: do I need to take that coating off to weld?
Finally, I was also going to POR-15 the major rust areas, can I just use POR-15 paint over the top of the phosphate coating without using the metal ready etch thing or would I need the metal ready solution to use the POR-15? The reason I ask is because the POR-15 metal ready descriptions on the Frost website seem to suggest that all the metal ready does it put on non-metallic coating on the metal for the paint to adhere to, which the phos[hate coating would do anyway?
Any help/advise much appreciated!
Ta,
Jay
