Brake conversion

Been looking at converting the front brake drums into discs on my beetle, not planning on doing it for some months to come really, but generally after some opinions...

Anyone done it?
-easy to do?
-worth the money?
-help with braking efficiency?

thanks guys

Re: Brake conversion

yes on all fronts.

Tis easy and cheap if your running 4 stud, 5 stud is a bit more expensive but still a bolt on conversion.

Re: Brake conversion

Personally I think well adjusted drums are no less efficient than discs, its just that you don't need to adjust discs all the time.
Drums have a bad rep because you need to adjust them every 2 weeks at most.
So if you're replacing stock with stock, don't expect to be blown away with your new stopping power!

Re: Brake conversion

Definitely better imho - no need to adjust & less brake fade.
There are kits available but these are very expensive. Cheapest way if it's 4 bolt is get
2/h spindles & backing plates, discs & add some new calipers & flexi hoses (you need to change flexi hoses - different length for disc & drum)

Re: Brake conversion

Sorry for late reply, havnt been at the comp for a few days!

Mixed reviews then, on a whole seems like they are for the best just doing some research as this is my first car, and tbh the braking power leaves a bit to be desired, i think i could get used to it/cope comfortably, just drums dont seem as constant as discs! (granted i dont expect the brakes to be as good as the 09 plate fiesta! or anywhere near)

ive seen a few complete kits for as little as £175 - kingfisher customs do this, i went down a few weeks back!

im not aiming to do it anytime soon! got the MOT on easter weekend so making sure it flys thru that before i start messing! got a pesky oil cooler leak as well that needs sorting! trying to avoid any bigger jobs that could make the car a none runner until the mot's done!
