This place is a photographers dream. The main building caught fire in 1937 and has been uninhabited ever since. The adjoining church is Baroque and is truly stunning. The building is now part of the National Heritage and well worth a visit.
i visited a year or so ago, the newspaper cuttings in the church were an interesting read, i too thought it was destroyed by fire, but it seems the fire damage was limited one wing, the rest of the damage was done by salvagers stripping the assets of the building in latter years, well worth a visit tho, did they fire up the fountain while you were there?

The main fountain is off during the winter with only the 2 side fountains working.
Reading up on it, the building got bought by an antiques dealer in 1954 (or there abouts) and he stripped and sold a lot of it (beams, fittings, slate roof etc etc)
