Re: the big no no. roller painting your camper

someone help!!!!!

little update. i decided to remove some paint of a pannel to just check how it was bonding to the old paint and it just peeled of like rubber.. not happy about this so ive decided to remove the rest that i have done....

back to the start
im now looking for new paint and need some advice. what apint should i use. ive searched the net and im unsure if i should just roll on hammerite, 2pk, selulose or rustoleum.. has anyone ever used hammerite. if so can you wet and dry it back and still get a nice finish.

regards

My bus is painted in tekaloid paint ! finnish aint too bad but it is a lot harder to flat back than rustoleum as it dries fook hard !
The paint on my bus is about 10 years old now

Re: the big no no. roller painting your camper

I have used hammerite and rustoleum in the past,
Rustoleum gives brilliant results with a gloss roller.
Hammerite just doesn't seem to polish up too well
Google paint your van for £50 and you will find instructions start to finish to paint your van using rustoleum. ( I'm not sure if its on brickyard or club 80 - 90 )

You do know that it takes a while for coach enamel to harden don't you?
I'm pretty sure they say Rustoleum doesn't completley harden for a few weeks ( depending on temperature) so you should avoid rubbing down for this reason.
You may be worrying about nothing

Re: the big no no. roller painting your camper

thanks for the replys, all info helps. it a massive learning curve for me but im enjoying it alltho ive now started removing paint that i spent hours of wet n drying.

today ive been to carvers wolverhampton where there is a company called ANDREWS COATINGS. they deal in rustoleum and they were very handy. they have lots of info on drying times and mixtures and so on. just need to decide what colour now. im thinking maybe orange???

In the old days it was always Valspar that people used. When I was a sprog in the early 70s my parents had an Austin 1100 that dad had painted with it years before.

Re: the big no no. roller painting your camper

im impressed with ur finish fella. im a sprayer by trade n to do that sort of flatting n moppin would do my head in. 2k would b no good for the roller celli would b better. but if u go to the jawel web site he does a selection of rollerball paint which flows really well. that the only advice i can give. the reason the paint would peel like that is due to the sheer amount that has been applied. iv seen it on sprayed cars, its just volume of paint. id be tempted to strip the panel that peeled just do it again with the same product. its just finding the right amount to put on. try keying up the surface abit rougher maybe. goin white id go for 320p dry flated red scotch. thats all i can say fella, good luck and fair play
