1972 BEETLE 1300 FULL MOT TAX EXEMPT
This 1300 1972 VW Beetle has been sitting in my wife’s mom and dads garage for the past 10 years.
As she never got around to passing her test and me not being partial to older cars decided it is time for her to go.
Before I start I want to stress that although I know a fair amount about cars , I know nothing about beetles.
Surprisingly after 10 years I fitted a new battery and it started first time.
I realised it would be worth more with an MOT and it now has 12 months after having some electrics sorted out , patches welded to the offside front floor pan , nearside front inner wheel arch , and offside bulkhead, a brake light switch , new front brake shoes an nearside front wheel cylinder. I have changed the plugs, done an oil change and set up the carb.
The engine sounds fine to me and it has just under 58K on the clock.
It has had a fair few patches welded on in the past but seems good and solid.
It is tax exempt but has no tax at the moment as I have no intention of driving it. The taxation class needs to be changed on the log book because the tax exempt law came into force whilst this has been off the road.
The points I have noticed or been told need doing are :
The roof lining is missing ( see photos )
Carpet is taped into position ( see photos)
There is no spare wheel
No nearside window winder
Seats are tatty
No accelerator pedal ( still drivable)
Wiring under bonnet tatty
Key doesn’t open nearside door
Slight damage to offside front wing paintwork ( see photo)
Heater pipes under bonnet need connecting
I have been told that despite these things that need doing I should not accept under £1500 for it, even though it is not necessarily the best time of year to sell. But I am taking this advise and if need be will keep a little longer and sell later next year if needed as I am in no rush.
I have tried to be as honest in my description as I can and if I think of anything else will add later.
