Just spoken with my bro who is an insurance engineer.

He said to ask HOW they have come to that valuation and where they got there figures from.
Request a 2nd valuation.
Do not release the van from your posession.
Send as many examples of vans for sale in same condition.
Get quotation from specialist company ( kingfisher etc) and valuation
Valuation from any clubs you are in.

Let me know how things go and will get next step info for you

yeah - we all know about 'agreed value'

but shouldn't that be for an outstanding specimen that is above 'market value'

if you dont have agreed value, they shouldn't be alowed to take the piss with their 'market valuation' !

do you have legal cover ?

I once was in a position (crap car) where they offered a low price, so I asked if I could use my legal cover to sue them for the true market value

they then came back with a better offer !

it shouldn't matter whether its a 40 year old van or a pound of bacon .. it has a market value - that is what the current market would pay for that item ! or - more importantly, what you would have to pay to replace that item of similar spec

they really piss me off !
