clutch cable in a polo

hi,

our clutch cable snapped while on holiday and the AA guy made a temporary cable to tide it over. now all of a sudden i cant engage gears unless the engine is off, is this the cable or something to do with the box? if i put into first then start with clutch down, it seems like its slightly turning as the car rumbles forward, but pulls away fine when i raise to the bite (which hasnt changed height?!)

cheers!

sounds like the temp cable has stretched, or settled into place, (they do that, as I found out after spending ages making a cable for a fiat, to find I had to re do it!) you may be able to get away with adjusting it, if he's used the right end with a thread, if he has just made a cable to length, then you need to get a new cable, which by rights you need anyway, as temporary cables are just that, temporary!

you have to watch then, if adjusting it doens't work, that it might actually be a clutch fault... that could be what snapped the first cable....
