loosing power

Have a prob with loosing power whilst driving along not good on the motorway!
Its also been trouble starting which seemed to be the choke sticking but I don't think thats all. (Had been starting it with WD40!) And have cleaned the choke now, but this loosing power and almost cutting out I think is something to do with the fuel not getting through.
In my book it says to check if the jets are blocked, to check the float chamber fuel level, or needle valve sticking, or fuel pump not delivering enough fuel. Or intake manifold gaskets leaking, or cracked. .....which is great but could not find how to do those checks.
Is it something I can check myself without taking it to an expensive garage?
And are there any better photos/diagrams to show me where to look?

Cheers.

Re: loosing power

short of dismanteling the carb to clean it properly and then re setting the carb theres much you can do
it may be manifold icing too, if its happening now its colder, your manifold heater pipemay be blocked!
it may be just in need of a service again?
you do alot of miles as its a daily and they need regular servicing, altho yours does sound like it needs somthing else

ill have a look for desi yates 's number, he seems to have a load of parts, down near walsall

Re: loosing power

do you have one of thoes in-line fuel filters? that may want changing? also you may get away with squirting some carb cleaner into the carb, remove the fuel line and squirt it in there - you may get lucky and it may clean the carb jets?
carb cleaner can be bought cheep (£4) for a spray can, try halfords of any of that type shop, i have even seen some in a pound shop!

when the car is running try squirting some wd40 around the joints on the manifold, the sound/revs of the engine will change on its own ,if there is a leak

Re: loosing power

Thanx, yes I do have an inline fuel filter (I think), I've noticed it hasn't been filling up with petrol very quickly for a while, will try that first.

Re: loosing power

check that u got oil in it!!! i had a oil leak n 10 mins at 60mph i started slowing down n i didnt realise untill i was baking! my fuel filter dont usually hav fuel in it so dont worry about not havin much in there. pull the fuel hose off the carb n hold it over the intake n ask ur mate to turn it over 2 c if the pumps working but it dont sound like that cus the car still runs. check ur rocker clearances, they dont go out of adjustment often but its sumin u shud check regularly really. i dont think it wud b anything major but a good tune up and the timing being set n knowing that ur rockers r correctly set will sort it out.

what carb do u hav. it will say somin like solex 28 or 32 pict on the side just under where the fuel hose goes onto it.

Re: loosing power

hi i have just bought a water cooled t25 and it has a few problems that im not sure about, im loosing power in the top end of my gears and now and then it hasnt got alot of power in all gears. i dont know weather it gets flooded but i can smell the fuel sometimes. and also i dont have any heat coming out of my fan heaters, is there something i can look for to fixing this, my mate said that the pipes could be blocked, wot do you do to unblock them. and also i need a place to buy parts from like air filters, parts, etc at non rippoff prices, does anyone know any good sites for this? and also just tips into wot to look for on the van as this is my first. adam
